Lesser known fact about blogging
If the benefits of blogging are a mystery we are about to tell you; exactly how it works and what it can do for your natural search engine optimisation (SEO). That is, increasing your visibility on the internet without having to pay for it – it doesn’t’ get much better than that!
Many people I speak to are a bit dismissive about blogs and say something like – “ah yes, our blog is on our website..” my questions are;
- What is it doing for you?
- How are you using it?
- Who are you communicating with?
Depending on your market a blog on your website for your customers (or anyone) to comment on your company, your products and services may be an enhancement to your customer’s experiences but will it help you to sell more? It might and it might not. Will a blog of this description help with your SEO – in short probably not.
That’s not to say this type of blog is not useful, because it is – it’s just not going to help your SEO.
So, how can a blog help your SEO?
Here are some answers that many other types of marketing training simply don’t tell you.
When you post to your blog you are communicating directly with the search engine spiders. You’re letting them know that you’re there, you’re active and you’re current. If you’re blogging about key topics around your products and services you’ll be building up indexing with the search engines making your website easier to find when people search for your products and services. If you use a blog that is not visible to your clients i.e. not located on your website you can link to your website too – which will help your natural SEO even more.
Why will utilising blogs in this way help your natural SEO? When the spiders can match what is on your website with search enquiries your website pages will be published more frequently. The more frequently they are published the more they’ll be ranked and more that happens the higher you appear in the rankings, without having to pay for it.
To make it work for you must do a few things;
- Update your website regularly – once a month is fine
- When you’ve updated your website post some of your update to your blog with a link to your update – this is how you’re inviting the spiders to take a look at your updated website
- You must be careful to add links to other websites too – or it will not work
So, if you want to get more traffic to your web site, and ultimately improve your lead generation to help you close more sales, make sure that blogging is one of your marketing skills.
